“7/4 Shoreline”

BSS have a new album coming out and will be in Los Angeles at the Music Box, May 3. I don’t know what the level of interest is here…thought you ought to know…and, you know, so let’s go!

For me, this CD was it.

February 4th, 2010 by FerrisSC

I rememeber being in 6th grade, maybe 5th grade, but it was year 2000 a.d. and Eminem’s “Marshall Mathers” EP had just come out. This precise time period was also “fracking” crazy. Carson Daly was hosting TRL (OMG!), Explicit Lyrics were being stamped on CD’s, Eminem’s new album was discussed on every news station, CanCUN was all the rave!, AOL/dail-up, and penis enlargement infomercials were airing at night, and a little, proud white boy, named Billy Kittleman (i.e. ME) from McAllen TX, was sagging pants and grabbing his/my small tiny dick 20+ times an hour. (sorry for the profanity and inappropriate-ness….I used to listen to Eminem)

I am now setting up how Eminem changed the United States of America, or maybe just a whiteboy for McAllen, TX. My Mom bought me this album when I was in “whatever grade”, but got me the edited (ie. beeped out) version, HA! To think that cutting out the cuss words really did anything at all. I still have that exact CD, and it is AWESOME with the words “beeped out”. This album had great beats, produced by Dr. DRE, and also had 5+ songs appear on TRL!!!! (for consecutive days in a row…EXTREMELY hard to achieve).

I am now going to stop making want to ever buy, or listen, to this ablum, and will tell you from the bottom of my heart, maybe even soul, that this is one of the “awesomest” albums ever made. No Joke. This album signle handedly CHANGED SOCIETY. I FUCKING MEAN THAT. IF YOU DON’T BELIEVE ME YOU ARE A HOMO! (sorry this album did things to me…) Name something, anything, from today and I can relate it directly to Eminem’s “Marshall Marthers” album. Examples include prescription meds/health care, christina agulera, the list goes on, and on. This album had significant impacts on society, and the culture of today, no matter how direct, or indirect they have been. Mainly, I wanted to say this album was MY generation, and I wanted to share that with everyone. My psyche will never be the same :D

….If you would like to share albums from your past childhood, or wish to contact FerrisSC, please comment below.

Thank you.

I was having withdrawals from Mos Def so I downloaded his entire discography.

Please turn up the volume as loud as it will go.

White Denim – “Shake Shake Shake”

I dunno, have we (meaning you guys) been going to gigs? I culled a few shows upcoming that caught my eye: White Denim at the Troubadour 1/19; St Vincent at the El Rey 2/09; Editors, The Antlers 2/11; Mirah 2/21; Memory Tapes 2/26; Dirty Projectors with LA Philharmonic 2/27; Magnetic Fields 3/02; the Big Pink, APTBS 3/09; Efterklang 3/16; Cymbals Eat Guitars 3/24.

I’d been keen to see any of the above…or erm whatever. Whatchu say?

TNPS – ‘We Want War’

Hear the new album streaming on TNPS Myspace. Says the brilliant chap at Drowned in Sound, “Beat Pyramid was a promising shot across the bow, but no one could have predicted the carpet bombing TNPS intended to unleash.” 9/10  (Quoting myself, it doesn’t get tackier than that!)

Richmond Fontaine

December 23rd, 2009 by dharmabum

Those that know me know that I have a special place in my heart for alt-country/new Americana. I recently discovered the band Richmond Fontaine because they have been on a few best of lists, including Greg Dulli’s from the the Afghan Whigs and Twilight Singers fame. Anyway, put them on the list of bands I want to see when they come through town again. Posting “You Can Move Back Here” but be sure to check out “Making it Back” Enjoy:
