John Cale…Buffalo Ballet

Saturday, June 27th, 2009

Here is a song by John Cale, formerly of Velvet underground, played on a couple Nick Drake records not to mention production and much much music after this era.  The guitar player is Chris Spedding, tasteful, reserved fills, sending waves of warmth through the tune.  It sounds like a ballad beautiful and simple, about the wrestling of the North American continent by European explorers and the breaking of the native culture and the rise of the industrial world.  How fitting that such a destructive process is set to such a lovely tune.

PS- Capt AKAK….this song is off of FEAR by John Cale, released in 1974….ENO is all over this and i think he produced it….another record to fucking melt to.

Enjoy…..

Michael Jackson: The King of Pop

Friday, June 26th, 2009

The world is going to hell in a hand basket:  Iran’s near civil war; North Korea is chompin’ at the bit to blow somebody up with a nuclear bomb; the Italian prime minister is a buffoon; the US soccer team kicked Spain’s ass, etc–but suddenly none of this matters.  Michael Jackson passed away and the world stops to take note.  And rightfully so.  You kiddies have no idea what a real pop star is.  Add up all the American Idol winners and multiply times a thousand and you’ll have some idea of how MJ ruled the 80s.

List your favorite MJ song and/or memory.

Neurosis & Jarboe – Within

Thursday, June 25th, 2009

Do you like the dark and macabre?

No?

Didn’t think so, but I still felt compelled to share this gem. Jarboe:

<br />

In the late 80′s/90′s Jarboe worked side by side with Gira (yes, mr. Angels of Light himself) in the punk-ish band Swans.

Amelia, Zac, Joe and Chris are experienced veterans to the LA music scene but it was their first time to come out with us which was a pleasure to witness. (more…)
