This band is fucking amazing…sorry to speak in superlatives but it’s true. The song right after the interview is like a catharsis…joy. I’ve been dancing around my house all night.
They’re going to be playing a free show at the Hammer Museum on July 23rd (the Hammer has rad programs on a weekly basis which I go to occasionally; if anyone is interested go to their website or get in touch with me) but I’m sure they’ll have a show before then which I’ll post up here.
Bobby – Want to try to get these guys to open for Sean Hayes??!?!?! Let’s do it, “aim high” I always say.
Now I understand I may be in the minority in the TSOS family in that I thoroughly enjoy attending these types of shows. But I figured I’d post this here because I feel like this is going to be an ass shaking good time. I’ll refrain from posting any live videos from these artists in fear of being lynched by the indie rock powers that be. I do suggest; however, that those interested look up videos/performances/music by Underworld, Bloody Beetroots, Chromeo, Crookers, A-Trak, and Tiga. In particular, find the performance from the Coachella Sahara tent by Bloody Beetroots and Crookers.
These types of shows aren’t your typical stand around head bobbing foot tapping shows. These also are not the “look at me being beautiful and suave in my fancy pancy outfit throwing the moves down on the club dance floor”. Its just a huge party of people getting lost in the music, sweating and moving to their hearts desire, completely oblivious to any judging eyes (I believe I witnessed something similar to this at an Akron show, unfortunately I had no idea what I was in for). Oh, and lots and lots of brain melting lasers.
So grab your glow sticks and expirience something new. Right now there are three of us with tickets already, but I am working on getting together a good sized group because things get real fun when surrounded by your loved ones. I realize this event is still some time away, so I’ll bump this in the future.
I like this band a lot and I’m going to the show. I’ve seen them live before and it was an amazing experience, mostly because I’d never seen a dude, a guitar and drum machine produce such bad-ass music.
If anyone else wants to go that’d be cool. If you haven’t heard their music before check out their first album 1st – Plague Park.
There’s something about Interstate 10 and driving around at night.
It would be cool if I could figure out how to sit in the back seat while I’m still driving so I can look out the window.
At any rate…I heard another song tonight on a small radio station that plays out there. The DJ’s name was Clio, she sounded like she was from Nebraska.
A frequent crew member in our musical adventures here at Truer Sources was asked by McCabe’s Guitar Shop to present their Justin Townes Earle show this coming Sunday. I say if you are not doing anything, you should come on out to support her in what will hopefully turn out to be an exciting new opportunity for WhenYouAwake.com.

Electronic Psychedelia combines two very elements of genres that have nourished my musical soul for that past 10 years. While I currently listen to much less electronic/ambient music in the present years, it is always nice to have a vintage night with friends at a “local” venue. Saturday, May 30th should provide the crew with a night of magic and wonderment; I picture MRoyed appearing much like he did here.
Personally, I an really only a fan of Black Moth’s album Dandelion Gum and their blended album with Austin greats The Octopus Project which were both releases many moons ago. This show will also feature relatively new entrants to the subculta rock world The School of Seven Bells.
Net Net it is a Saturday Night and $15 dollars. I am thinking we buy tickets at the door.
Enjoy one of my favorite songs from their early album.
I have seen a few top ten lists now, with MM’s Lonesome Crowded West album being sited. Here is one of my favorite tracks off the album. Listen to the part at 1:45. Masterpiece.
Spotlights gleam across a Star Search nation.
A million cries of “me” drown out the cruel frustrations of a normal life.
It’s a different kind of thinking.
A whole new way of telling lies ’til they’re true.
When you’re waiting for the light.
And we’re all waiting for the same light these days.
A job well done is not enough without a front page photograph.
Death comes quickly to the poor and obscure.
Booby prizes for the kind and unsure.
When they’re standing in the light.
40 channels of a daydream stimulation.
Help me to forget myself and raise my expectations of a better life.
I’m ready to be special now.
Get what I deserve and shine for an hour.
Standing in the light.
And it would help if you could die.
(It’s a tiny little world)
Something fast and tragic at an early age.
Guilty soon as you try.
(Teeny tiny little heroes)
Get a sense of history put yourself on the page.
It’s an ugly sight.
(In a tiny ugly world)
When everybody’s on the stage.
She’s got a face to launch a thousand supersonic jets.
A waitress in another life, how easily she forgets.
Looks back with a sigh to simpler days.
She’s not ungrateful, just caught up in the chase.
Still waiting for the light.
Think of me.
(It’s a tiny little world)
Watch what you do. Watch what you say.
Drink with me.
(Teeny tiny little heroes)
I’d be so grateful, if you could think of a way to pay.
Don’t dream of me.
(In a tiny ugly world)
Have it any other way.
“After endless touring, semi-solo albums from leaders Kevin Drew and Brendan Canning, and a boatload of records from friends and associates, the amorphous indie rock entity known as Broken Social Scene are getting back to the business of being Broken Social Scene. They’re currently recording album number four at Soma Electronic Music Studio in Chicago with post-rock sonic mastermind John McEntire (Tortoise, the Sea and Cake), according to a message from Drew on the band’s site.”
Tortoise also has a new album due out soon….Beacons of Ancestorship. Plus many of you will be seeing Tortoise play at the Troubadour with me on July 11th…..
