Michael Jackson: The King of Pop

The world is going to hell in a hand basket:  Iran’s near civil war; North Korea is chompin’ at the bit to blow somebody up with a nuclear bomb; the Italian prime minister is a buffoon; the US soccer team kicked Spain’s ass, etc–but suddenly none of this matters.  Michael Jackson passed away and the world stops to take note.  And rightfully so.  You kiddies have no idea what a real pop star is.  Add up all the American Idol winners and multiply times a thousand and you’ll have some idea of how MJ ruled the 80s.

List your favorite MJ song and/or memory.

Oh. Here’s my favorite MJ factoid: MJ’s Superbowl appearance is the only time more people tuned in to see the halftime show than the game itself. I think the Neilson people officially termed it as a “ga-zillion viewers.”

i used to jam Off the Wall, my parents owned it and in the early 80′s it was one of those records along with Help by the Beatles that really transfixed my mind and changed me. I used to put the record on when my father taught me how to put the record player on and without scratching the record. He would sit back and I would run around and jam the tunes. I don’t have a favorite song, i just know he was a freak and he let me know through his music it was ok to be odd. RIP…….mike……
