Stephen Malkmus dishes up a great Dylan cover!
I heard that Malkmus covered Bob Dylan’s “Ballad of a Thin Man” so I looked it up on youtube. This is a masterful rendition of the original. My respect for Stephen Malkmus seriously grows everytime I listen to him, and especially to hear him play and preform like this, ranks him as one of the best musicians…

I think the greatest compliment that can be given to someone doing a cover is that the song sounds like their own. This cover almost reaches that point for me, even though it’s a Bob Dylan song that has been covered thousands of times. I think few people in the world can do what Malkmus did here. Even Dylan himself on the album version of this song seems a little like a caricature of himself, like a circus act. Malkmus pulls this off brilliantly, even though he is sometimes an over-actor, he seems overtly genuine here.
